3/13/23 Bac Me Clinic

Image
Our first clinic in the beautiful Ha Giang Province was in the Bac Me district.  The Ha Giang Province is in the mountains on the China boarder.  Since this region is high in the mountains it tends to be colder and for most the one source of heat is an open fire in the home.  Unfortunately, open fire often leads to burn accidents with the children so many of the children this week are being treated for burn wounds.   For more photos and google photo link click READ MORE.   https://photos.app.goo.gl/Rwm9QT57wV7TixE97

Being Received

Image
I learned a new term this week “Being Received”.     When we go to a province we travel each day to a different district or hospital with in the province.   It is customary for the Director of Labor and Public Affairs to Receive our team as a guest to their district.  Normal routine is we work from 7:00-3:00 in the district clinic and then travel to the next district where we then meet with the Director of Labor for the next province to welcome us and discuss any key issue in the district.   This is then followed by an evening to welcome dinner, drinking and fun to welcome our team for the work we do for the children.    I have plenty of photo’s on the following google photo link.    https://photos.app.goo.gl/hEERH45VjwyxhDTx9 At first I was confused why we would meet with the Director of Labor but as it turns out the Director of Labor is also responsible for the Health Systems here in Vietnam.  When you hang out with the high ...

Cool Story: Showing Respect

Image
Today as we journey through the Ha Giang Province we stopped for a break at a road side cafe with an amazing view.   During our stopped we were called into the home on the property for tea.  It turns out that the owner of the cafe was in a very serious motorcycle accident last year and he was treated by Dr. Dinh the trauma surgeon who is traveling with us.   He wanted to show us respect and thank Dr. Dinh for saving his life.   It’s a small world that we would visit his cafe and he would recognize Dr. Dinh the man who helped save his life.
