Banh Mi
Banh Mi is one of the most popular sandwich in Vietnam. Bahn Mi is a baguette with thin, crisp crust and soft airy texture. A typical Banh Mi is fusion of meats and vegetables from native Vietnam such as Pork, cilantro, pickled carrots, cucumber, pate. In Vietnam Bahn Mi are typically eaten for breakfast or a snack.
Bahn Mi was introduced by the French in the mid-19th century and became a staple food by early 1950s. As a staple food the Bahn Mi sandwiches are available everywhere.
Best Banh Mi in Hanoi? “Bahn Mi 25” according to Trip advisor for many years. Bahn Mi 25 happens to be owned by my first friend in Hanoi-Phoung. In addition Phoung’s father Mr. An is the founder of the NGO I am volunteering for. 7 years ago I meet Phoung, his wife Ha and his mother. This beautiful family was there for me when I needed anything.
9 years ago Phoung opened a small Bahn Mi cart with a few tables in front of the family’s home in the Old Quarter. To handle the expanding business over the years they had to rent 2 additional spaces to seat the daily crowds. One of the few restaurants in Hanoi where you have to wait to get a seat. I frequent the restaurant and often help out where I can. Because of the high ratings on social media Bahn Mi 25 has become a must try while in Hanoi.
A high % of guests are foreigners and many have asked me “Why the wait is this a tourist trap”? My usual response is: Social media beings many people here but you be the judge if it’s for real based on your experience and the quality of the food. Everybody who ask100% of them have approached me after and say this food is amazing and most say we will be back tomorrow, will you be here? Here’s to continued success my friend. Ga Ga!
