Nam Ban Visit

We had a 2 week break between clinic visits so I went to visit friends and family in Nam Ban.    Nam Ban is a small farming community of approx 9,000 out side of Da Lat.  Da Lat is famous for coffee, it is the Napa Valley of coffee in Vietnam.  


In Nam Ban the best coffee is served at the Reng Reng cafe.  Operated by the amazing Nguyen family.  The name Reng Reng comes from the fact that their son started selling Arabica coffee beans in Hanoi from his bicycle and would ring the bell to get people's attention.   This small enterprise developed into a famous coffee shop and movement to appreciate the Arabica variety of coffee.  

 

Nam Ban is a beautiful small town in the foothills lush with coffee plantations and other local crops like Dragon Fruit, Bananas, Avocados and various flower farms.  The most beautiful part of the town are the people.   This amazing community treats me like family, the welcome mat is out at every home.  Starting with my host family Lien and Hanh Nguyen and their son Minh.  Super Host!

 

It's amazing to watch the strong small community spirit in Nam Ban.  During my visit we participated in several home projects around town, Lien was replacing some of his roof, Thao and Hung are building a new home drainage ditch.  Several members of the community gathered to help each other with the project offering their time and skills.    

I went to Nam Ban with the intention to visit with a few families I met last year and I left with many more friends and families I can't wait to visit again.  Every day we were guests in someone's home for lunch or dinner.   We spend quality time with several different communities who practice Falum Dafa.   Lien as my mentor helped me get a good understanding of the practice.

  Hi Team, It’s been a busy first week in  Vietnam  🇻🇳.    After a 20 hour flight from SFO ✈️ I was picked up from the airport at 12:00 noon.  After a  2 hour drive to Lang Son Province I was greeted with applause from approximately 60 families waiting to have their child evaluated. Bac Kan Province Screening- 2024

  Bac Kan Province is the poorest province in Vietnam.  It is also home to only 300,000 residents of which 89% are minorities.   The region is mountainous with beautiful lakes and rivers. This is a new province for us so each day we started our day with training  of local healthcare professionals on the types of patients and conditions we can help with.   Through out the year they will help identify patient in their local communities and refer them to our program. It takes a village, the success of the program is based on your financial support as well as the hundreds of local community partners who interface with the patients in their communities. Yen Bai Province Surgery Week 2024

  Hi Team, Just completed a very productive surgery week in Yen Bai Province. Yen Bai province is about 3 hours north of the capital Hanoi.  Forestry and farming are the dominant industries in Yen Bai.   I was very impressed with the Provincial Hospital where we performed our surgeries.   The facility was built 10 years ago with cooperation from South Korea.  The facility was very modern and our specialist from Hanoi commented that it was much nicer than the National Hospitals in Hanoi.   There are several provinces in Vietnam that have hospitals sponsored or built by the South Korean Government.   Our week was kicked off with a welcome party hosted by the hospital for the patients which included live entertainment, games, treats and gift bags provided by our donors VSUN and Van Meter as part of the " Rebuilding the Smile " program.   The children and parents loved it.  Great way to welcome everyone.  During the we...
